Return to work

It is an encouraging fact that most studies have shown that around 75% to 80%
of heart surgery patients return to their previous employment. The timing of return
to work depends on the kind of work involved. As a general rule, patients with light
occupations can consider returning to work any time from around two months after
the operation. Those who have heavy manual occupations may not be able to return
to work for at least three months after surgery to give more time for the muscles,
bone and joints of the chest wall to complete their healing process.
