In general there are few precautions needed on discharge following
operation, most babies and children are eating well from a normal diet, and
can build up to normal activities including going to school in a few weeks.
After very big operations some children may benefit from having a sleep in
the afternoon for 2-3 weeks after leaving hospital, and may not wish to join
in very active games for about six weeks. During this time some medicines may also be needed, but the doctor will advise you about this, and how soon the
child may return to school, and take up games.
There is one special precaution which will still be needed even if the
operation corrects your child’s heart problem completely. This is the need to keep
his mouth and teeth healthy and to observe the recommendations listed on Page.
