These form an essential part of living, particularly in times of high unemployment. Being incapacitated by disability can be very boring, espically for someone who was active mentally and physically before having a stroke. Disablement like retirement can be provide the opportunity to explore new activities, while at the same time whenever possible keeping up with former interests in order to remain in touch with former friends. After a stroke it is often necessary to help people come to terms with their limitations and change their expections. Sometimes activities like gardening and fishing can be continued in a modified way; a replanned garden to reduce the work and help from friends to get to suitable bank for fishing. Other people may need to take up more sedentay activities like playing dominoes or other board games, listening to music or citizen’s band radio, or kepping a small pet.
