The main reason for being unable to drive again after a stroke are perceptual problems, visal problems,loss of concentration and the memory. Everyone is required by law to inform Driver and Vehicle Licensing Centre, Swansea about any disability which is or may become likely to affect fitness to drive unless this is not excepted to last for more than 3months. Anyone who does not do this who is involved in an accident, however caused will not be covered by insurance because his or her driving licence will be invalid. There are several places where disable people can be assessed for their ability to drive. This will include testing reaction time, the ability to grip the wheel and trying out various cars with different adaptations. Its is not difficult to have a car adapted for one-handed driving.
