Someone who has had a stroke is likely to tire easily and may need frequent
short rests and perhaps an afternoon nap. Deciding on priorities and concentrating
energy on those activities that are most interesting or rewarding will help. If
struggling to dress independently is so tiring that the patient has to sit in a chair to
recover for the rest of the morning, it may be better to assist with dressing to leave
energy for peeling potatoes, cleaning shoes or going for a short walk. It is easier to
build stamina by doing things that are interesting than things that are not. A good
way to measure progress is to do just one thing more today than was managed
yesterday.
